Get your custom domain working in just 5 simple steps
We recommend using a subdomain specifically for tracking. Popular choices include:
links.yourcompany.com track.yourcompany.com go.yourcompany.com click.yourcompany.com
Important: Always use a subdomain, not your main domain.
Navigate to Settings → Domains in your workspace and click "Add Domain". Select "Tracking Links" as the domain type and enter your chosen subdomain.
Add these DNS records with your domain provider:
CNAME Record: Host: links (or your chosen subdomain) Points to: cname.vercel-dns.com TTL: 3600 TXT Record (for verification): Host: _vercel.links (under your subdomain) Value: vc-domain-verify=... (provided by SMASHSEND) TTL: 3600
After adding DNS records, return to SMASHSEND and click "Verify Domain". Verification typically takes 2-10 minutes. You'll see a green "Verified" status when complete.
When creating a campaign, go to "Review & Send" and find "Links custom domain" under Tracking Settings. Select your verified domain from the dropdown.
Follow these guidelines for optimal results
Use a subdomain specifically for tracking
Keep DNS records updated and accurate
Verify domain before sending campaigns
Use consistent domains across campaigns
Set up auto-renewal for your domain
Don't use your main website domain
Don't remove DNS records after verification
Don't use the same subdomain for other services
Don't share domains across email platforms
Don't let your domain registration expire
We strongly recommend using a subdomain. Using your main domain can affect your website's SEO and email deliverability. A subdomain keeps tracking separate from your main web presence.
Usually 2-10 minutes after DNS records are added. However, DNS propagation can sometimes take up to 48 hours depending on your provider.
No, custom tracking domains don't impact your sending limits or quotas. They only change how links appear in your emails.
The domain used in sent campaigns cannot be changed. However, you can use a different domain for future campaigns. Existing links will continue to work as long as the domain remains active.
Links will stop working immediately. Ensure your domain registration is current and set to auto-renew to avoid any disruption.
Set up your custom tracking domain in minutes and start building trust with every email you send.
